BAT BOWLS™
This is a totally new design high quality lightweight aluminum die cast float bowl. It is a cost effective replacement part that fits virtually all currently manufactured modular carburetors. They weigh between 228 and 237 grams depending on configuration. This is 1/3-1/2 the weight of the stock zinc die cast bowl they replace. This equates to a savings of 1-2 pounds on a single carburetor. The inlets are standard 7/8-20 threads and are on stock centerline, so existing fuel logs and lines will fit. The screw bosses are shorter; allowing approximately two full turns more thread engagement on the carburetor body. This helps reduce the main body "pulled threads" that occur with frequent jets changes. Float level window(s) are standard to make easy work of fuel level adjustment. Quick change jet provision is an available option.

For 40 years, race teams have been frustrated by float-bowl designs that were originally intended for passenger-car carburetors. Braswell's all-new, Severe-Duty™ design corrects all of the deficiencies that have plagued serious racers; including excessive weight, fuel slosh, leaks, pulled-in mounting screws, starvation, corrosion, inexact float adjustment and damage caused by prying stuck bowls from the metering block. While we were at it, we took this opportunity to expand fluid capacity, as well!
Braswell selected marine-grade A360 alloy because it offers the same thermoconductivity as a common zinc float bowl, plus greater corrosion resistance - at less than half the weight. Notice all of the ribbing. Extensive use of support ribs enabled us to further reduce mass and weight, without sacrificing strength. In fact, two Severe-Duty™ bowls weigh less than one conventional float bowl, taking more than one full pound off the front of any race car!
Everything inside is designed to direct the fuel. Braswell's patented, sloping Fuel Chute® is shaped to bring fuel from the needle and seat directly to the main jet and power valve - eliminating the starvation problems inherent to stock-type float bowls. Our molded float and the entire float bowl are designed to work in harmony to direct the fuel to the point of use in the float bowl; i.e., the main jets and power valve area.
Even the float hinge is specially designed to allow fuel to flow through it, down the Fuel Chute®, into the main-jet area. The sloped floor of the bowl takes the fuel right into the jets. Cast-in clearance to accommodate jet extensions is standard. Internal ribs are strategically placed to prevent fuel slosh.
Cast-in pry points provide a method for separating stuck bowls from the metering body, without damaging either mounting surface. (Better yet, avoid the problem by using a quality bowl gasket!) We've also reinforced the attachment holes in each corner. Extra-thick gussets prevent the 1/4-inch-longer bowl screws from "pulling in." Built-in sealing beads are machined into the washer area, ensuring positive sealing of the screw washers. (The extra-long screws are available from Braswell.)
We've even taken the mystery out of setting the float level. Severe-Duty™ float bowls come with real-glass sight windows.
Primary and secondary Severe-Duty™ float bowls are now available for all currently manufactured modular carburetors. Order a machined casting or fully assembled fuel-supply system, ready to bolt on. All component parts are either stainless steel or EN-plated for longest life.
Additional options include an accelerator-pump bleed-off jet, single or double inlets and single or double windows. A provision is made in the top of the bowl for private-label identification; your logo can be cast right into this one-inch-square area, or it can be left blank to accept your name tag. Custom castings can be configured to meet your specific needs.
Severe-Duty™ float bowls are available either as finish-machined castings or complete assemblies, set up for gas or alcohol. Please call for complete details.
